Transplant News featured the Kidney Alliance and the Patient Partner Coalition’s (PPC) Transplant 1st Campaign launch! This recognition would not be possible without the support of Alliance members and the Coalition’s hard work and dedication to advocate for a radical system-wide reform of the Canadian healthcare system that prioritizes kidney transplant first, as the best treatment for kidney failure.
Reform is urgently needed to optimize every patient’s chance to receive a kidney transplant and every donor’s opportunity to donate. This new kidney care model centres on transplant as the first and best treatment for kidney failure, and would save thousands of lives and billions of dollars in health care costs related to dialysis. These savings include disability benefits, lost work productivity, financial burden on patients and families, and countless other support costs.
The TRANSPLANT 1ST Campaign is the Alliance’s first advocacy campaign. It acts as an urgent call to action to reform the Canadian healthcare system to allow more patients to receive kidney transplants. The PPC of the Kidney Alliance, a grassroots group of kidney patients and donors working in partnership with researchers and healthcare providers, leads this call to action.
We are proud to drive impactful reforms to improve the lives of kidney patients across Canada. The PPC plans to expand its campaign and is looking for new kidney patients, donors, caregivers, and families and friends of kidney patients who would like to add their voices to the call for change.
